Continuing a Proud Texas Cowboy Reunion Tradition
One of the most visible and honored roles each year of the TCR is that of the Barrel Sponsor, a position that carries both responsibility and tradition throughout rodeo week.
The 96th Texas Cowboy Reunion (TCR) proudly announces Scout Dickson of Stamford, Texas, as this year’s Barrel Sponsor. Though Scout will not be competing for prizes in this role, her presence will be one of the highlights of this historic event. This 17-year-old will set the cloverleaf barrel pattern each night of the rodeo. Her responsibilities also include welcoming barrel racers, participating in the Grand Parade, co-hosting a breakfast for slack barrel racers alongside the TCR Hostess, and riding in the Grand Entry each evening.
Scout has been riding horses since she was about five years old. Most of her time in the saddle has been spent checking wheat pasture cattle, day working, and ranching alongside her dad, Nathan.
Her passion is breakaway roping, which she began about a year and a half ago. She has attended the 4-H Roping Camp for the past two years and has also participated in the Equine Champions for Christ Breakaway Roping Clinic.
Scout is an active member of Jones County 4-H, where she participates in livestock judging and horse judging. She was also a state qualifier in Educational Presentation with her presentation on feedlot safety.
She is active in her church and can often be found serving in the nursery with the same caring spirit she brings everywhere she goes. Scout works at the Haskell Feed Store and is a member of the Texas High School Rodeo Association.
Scout comes from a strong cowboy heritage. Her dad is a genuine cowboy, and her mom, Megan Denson Dickson, grew up riding horses and served as the TCR Sponsor in 1999. She is the big sister to her brother, Stone Dickson, and her sister, Sully Mae Dickson.
The Texas Cowboy Reunion is proud to have Scout represent this year’s rodeo tradition as Barrel Sponsor for the 96th TCR.
